Elk Creek Campground
Elk Creek Campground is located 16 miles west of Gunnison on U.S. Highway 50 on the shore of Blue Mesa Reservoir. The campground has four loops. Only the D loop has electric. The restrooms are clean and scattered throughout the campground. There are pay showers here by the marina that the concession runs. Currently they charge $3.75 for ten minutes.
The come with paddleboards to take out onto the reservoir.
The scenery in the Curecanti National Recreational Area is majestic and beautiful. High Mesa's accent the landscape. The blue waters of the Blue Mesa Reservoir provide for boating and fishing opportunities that draw sportsman from all over.
The Elk Creek Marina has a store and serves an access point to take a water craft out onto the reservoir. For fisherman there is a fish cleaning area to take care of your catch. There is even a little restaurant called Pappy's at the entrance to the boat ramp.
At night we enjoyed the ranger programs. There have several during the week which cover a wide range of topics
I was able to get glimpses of the plant life and wildlife during our stay. It is such a beautiful and scenic area with so much to see.
